Also, keen eyes might notice that the pendant light is Kierans TreFoil, which came runner up in another competition last year. There hasnt been much posted on it on our blog actually, so i’ll dig out some info on it.
Competition time! And yes, this is the sheet metal version of the boneless chair. Unfortunately it will still be quite a few weeks until we actually get to lay our hands on these bad boys..

Boneless Chair:
And this is the chair. Atleast, for the moment it is.
and we’ve ordered prototypes! 1.5mm cold rolled mild steel, powder coated in matte white. We’re also getting one in matte black.
The 2 parts have a fair amount of work in folding them, and then they are spot welded together, creating a pretty rigid structure. For added strength, we’ve got welds happening in the large bends of the main piece as well.
Our stress simulations look pretty solid, so we’ve taken the plunge! Wish us luck!
Boneless Chair: Sheet metal variants
So we’ve been doing some research into manufacturing some sheet metal furniture offshore, which will give us an opportunity to have cheaper products to offer people who don’t necessarily want a hand crafted piece such as we normally do.
To help avoid any costly mistakes though, we’ve been running simulations and force assessments on the chair, and tweaking the design once we have identified trouble areas.

It would be something not physically made by us - but would be much more affordable for the consumer than our handmade timber versions.
